In the Black Hills area, a nonprofit organization known as Operation Pets Inc. is committed to reducing pet overpopulation through low-cost spay/neuter services.
A Humble Beginning
Operation Pets Inc. didn’t start in a grand facility; it began with a simple trailer. Crystal Petty, who serves as the Surgical Coordinator, recalls those early days as a challenge. The trailer was small, often cold and had limited capabilities in helping the local pet population.
Despite these limitations, Crystal and her team pressed on with their mission.
Expanding to Serve More
Over time, Operation Pets Inc. has grown, and the organization transitioned from its trailer origins to a more spacious, fully-equipped facility. This transition brought invaluable amenities such as running water, which greatly enhanced their capacity to assist animals.
With the new space, they can now accommodate multiple veterinarians simultaneously and provide separate areas for cats, dogs, feral animals and domestic pets, ensuring a safer and more efficient environment.
