Friends have identified one of Wednesday’s accident victims on the new Westminster and Burnaby border. They say that Samir Ali, 18, had just graduated from high school and was about to attend the British Columbia University with a scholarship. He was driving home from a football match with a friend on Tuesday when his car was hit by a speeding vehicle that had fled a police traffic stop. Both Ali and his friend were in the accident. Yabsrat Habamu Hailu has been identified as the other victim of the accident. According to a Gofundme prepared to help his family, Hailu was a “phenomenal person and will be surprised by many people.” He was an incredible Rugby and a football player. He was awarded the player of the month by his football club team in March and recently made the male soccer team of the Burnaby district, which is a great achievement. ” The story continues below

Ali, who was also new in Canada and initially reached Vancouver as Kenya’s refugee, is remembered by friends as a compassionate young man who struggled to lift those around him. The story continues below
